Resource Center

The Resource Center, an 1852 historic building restored by the Society from 2012-2014, is the center of the Port Washington Historical Society. As the Society Resource Center, it houses the organization’s collections, offices and research area. It’s original tin ceiling, wood floors and plaster walls were revealed through the restoration of the building. The building was awarded a Historic Preservation Excellence Award in 2014 by the Wisconsin Association of Historic Preservation Commissions. Historic displays that feature the Society’s collections change from year to year. Volunteers assist with research requests.

Using many items which have been donated to the Port Washington Historical Society, our latest exhibit “Remember…WW I - 100 Years Later” explores the impact of World War I on Port Washington, and the role the citizens of Port played in fighting this war. We have attempted to share some of the stories of these brave individuals from the Port Washington area through artifacts, posters and photographs. Special emphasis is given to the wagoners with the Supply Company, 127th Infantry, 32nd Division, many of whom were from the Port Washington area. Visitors can learn what it meant to be part of this group, their bravery in getting the men supplies, and the valor with which they served.
